Those of you in the know have heard that I am going to be using this blog to become master of the blogging universe and that I will be regaling you all with wonderful and exciting stories that will be assigned to me through my Blogging 101 class. Congratulations on making the short list! Those of you that didn’t know, well, I apologize for the abrupt turn on subject matter, but a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do– I hope you don’t turn around and decide to stop following me. I promise I’ll make it worth your while.
Assignment #1 is to talk about who I am and why I am blogging. Sounds like an easy job, but I am actually kind of shaking in my boots. I mean, WHO AM I? Well, I am a 42 year old woman with the personality of a 16 year old girl. I watch and re-watch the same two television shows (Glee and The Mindy Project) and I love to drive my 8 year old son crazy. I am a children’s librarian in the Anythink (yes, that’s a thing) Library System in Colorado and have been since 2004. I have delusions of grandeur and I am completely convinced that there are people out there who actually what to hear what I have to say (even though I’m still not convinced that I want to hear what I have to say).
My default mode is usually in the negative and I have to work hard to pull myself into the happiness of life. Hence my handle on WordPress, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. is @whereshappy. I am always looking to find the good in things and the Zen in life even when I’m usually very impatient and frustrated that things aren’t always going my way. I talk A LOT and love to laugh and joke and make fun of my friends. It’s pretty much a given that if I like you, I make fun of you. Take it or leave it (please take it)! (Oh yeah, I also use parentheses a lot. Makes me feel like Mr. Subliminal.)
Okay, so I’ve admitted to being a bit wacky, but why have I started blogging? Well, the short answer is: because I finally got tired of watching life pass me by without actually reaching one of my biggest goals—to write a book. I have a good friend who actually published her first book on Amazon this year and I got a huge buzz just watching her go through the process. I realized that it might be possible for me to get over my fears and write my own book. It will be a series of life vignettes that, hopefully, make people laugh–and I give you all permission to laugh. I think I would be hurt if you didn’t. My blog is like the world’s most public rough draft. I want to get feedback, I want to feel that my words are valid, and I want to cultivate an audience. (And you thought you were just reading for fun.)
There is no real rhyme or reason to my posts other than they reflect where I am at the moment. I am realizing that they are extremely girl-centric, but since I’m a girl that seems about right. I’m hoping that guys don’t get turned off by that admission because I’m sure I’ll have plenty of things to say about your fair sex as the days go by. Of course, I keep trying to get my husband to read my stuff, but he’d rather go out and wash the car for the third time in less than a week. I guess that doesn’t bode well for you guys then. Well, at least give my blog one read. Maybe pass it on to a girl you know.
All in all, I am extremely excited to be a part of this Blogging 101 class and I look forward to meeting all sorts of new and interesting people. Maybe learn a thing or two about this new world I find myself floating in and around. I plan on reading as many new blogs as possible and I hope I make a couple of new friends. Good luck to us all.

I am finding a lot of things on Blogging 101 very helpful. I can already do some things I never thought I would ever do. Right now my problem is writing so many things and then just putting them in the blog instead of saving them for my book. I have to have something new in there, right?! Thank you for reading.

Fun read! I’m a fan of the parentheses, too — and dashes (I like dashes a LOT). Like your handle and theme, too. Look forward to more entertaining posts.

I tried to curb the parentheses, but they are just too me! Thank you for reading.

Well, you got my attention. You did a bang-up first day. I just gotta follow you to see where you are going. Writing a book, you got it in the bag. Will it be a children’s book; young adult; fiction or non-fiction? I look forward to seeing more of your posts.

Hiya! Thank you for your nice comments. I would like to write a book in all of those genres, but right now I have it in me to try to put together a humorous non-fiction book in the vein of Tina Fey/Mindy Kaling/Ellen Degeneres, etc. Of course, I’m no comedian but I try to be funny with my writing.

Full disclosure: the following company has not paid or compensated me in any way to say this. Have you checked out a site called Tablo.io? It’s an Australian based company that helps writers connect. I discovered them recently, and they’re pretty great. Plus, any eBook or novella you write through their site can be published to iBooks and Amazon with just a few clicks. I haven’t taken them up on that offer yet, but it’s definitely on my to-do list.
