Just For Fun- How Can I Get Any Writing Done When Mindy Kaling is Back On the Air?

Hello my lovely friends!

I think I deserve a medal today.  I got up, took a shower, got the dog out for his walk, took the boy to school and then sat down to actually write something for the first time since I got back from my mini-vacation to southern Colorado.  It has been a super struggle to jump back in and join the world with all of my writing friends.  I can’t wait to finish up a couple of new pieces I’m working on and get them out into the world.  But as one problem is solved, another is created…and I’m talking about the new fall line-up of television shows.

I used to live and die by the hellish schedule that FOX would put me through when they decided to air Glee (I swear that by the end it was one show, two weeks off, one show, three weeks off, etc.) It was grueling.  But, Glee was (is) my life and wherever those bastards told me to be, I was there. It was hard to get that drug out of my system but I’m doing so well right now. (I haven’t even watched a repeat for about a week!)  It’s a damn miracle.

As Glee was winding down I discovered The Mindy Project.  I had heard about it from a friend at work and it looked like something I might be interested in, but I didn’t want to get sucked into another show.  I hemmed.  I hawed. Then the hubby dumped for two weeks to go to China for work and I was home with the boy by myself.  I needed someone to hang with. Someone that would make me laugh and keep my mind off of the fact that I was the sole adult responsible for keeping the boy alive.  I put a lot of pressure on that show!  Thank goodness it ended up being exactly what I needed.

I gobbled up the first two seasons in about five days.  I re-watched several episodes (you see my pattern, right?) and started to hunt for the season three shows on youtube all before the hubby made it back home.  Mindy was my new best friend.  Great clothes, hilarious writing, adorable stars–I could not (and still can’t) get enough.  That was all back in January and by June I was caught up (several times over) and anxiously awaiting season four.  I was able to try different shows, maybe watch a movie or two on the blu-ray machine…and then someone announced that Mindy was going to be canceled.

What?!  Oh, I don’t think so bitches.  I was so fired up and upset that I almost couldn’t bring myself to go into work (true story).  Am I pathetic?  Probably.  Do I let this stuff get to me too much? Of course. But that’s the core of me and that’s the way it is.  I couldn’t believe that FOX was going to leave me fucking hanging again and yet they did. They are dead to me!!! Before I could get myself into a REALLY good lather about Mindy, it was announced that Hulu was going to pick it up and have it as an original series.  Amazing!  Fantastic! Stupendous!  But, wait.  Now I’ll have to pay to see Mindy. Worth it?  Oh, hell yeah! I fully expected the hubby to have a conniption, but he’s held it together pretty well so far.  I think he just knows he can’t win this one.

So back to the problem that I mentioned way back at the beginning of this post (that has been much longer than I expected) and that is of the new fall shows.  I am already a slave to Mindy and I’ve already got other shows on the “to try” list: The Grinder, Scream Queens (damn you Fox and Ryan Murphy), The Muppets…and it makes me wonder when in the hell am I going to get anything else done?

In the spirit of having some “Just for Fun” posts, I am asking you, my friends, what new shows you’re looking forward to this fall?  Do any of you have the same kinds of problems with this as I do?  How do you get yourself to keep being productive?  If you don’t want to give me advice to help me be productive, then tell me your favorite shows and become an enabler. Whatever you want!  Let’s have some fun with this and please let me know that I’m not the only one with this affliction!
