Just For Fun–Help Me Plan My Totally Awesome Vegas Vacation!

Vegas, baby!  That is where I am heading early Sunday morning with my mom and a very good friend.  We are jumping into my version of the family truckster (my twelve year old Prius) and zooming (okay, fighting for each mile) through the Rocky Mountains on a twelve hour journey to “The City of Lights”, or “The City that Never Sleeps”, or “The City that Makes You Really, Really Fat”–whatever most people call it these days.  I honestly don’t even care what nickname it has–I’m just going to call it “The City that Isn’t Here” and be happy with that!

I am the type of person that tries to go on vacation whenever I can manage to even get four days off in a row and as much as I love my boys and The Magic Three, I am ready to ditch those dudes and head off with the girls to “The City of Sin” (aha!  I knew I would remember sooner or later) and get my vacation on.  Of course, I’m not much for sinning, or gambling, or going to nightclubs, or drinking, or staying up all night…wait, why in the hell am I going to Vegas again?   Oh yeah, because it’s “The City That Isn’t Here” and I really, really need that right now.

My last significant vacation (and what I mean is a vacation of more than four days and out of Colorado) was back in March when I went to Disney World with my niece (cry me a river, right?).  I have since been through six months without significant travel, a summer reading program at the library, and trapped with a newly minted nine year old trying to find his way through the new school year.  Get me the hell out of Dodge, now!

This was supposed to be the trip that got a lot of my girlfriends together to party, but life intervened and we are down to three.  But we are not letting that stop us in any way and we are going to charge our way through that city like the awesome people we are!  By going to our first Cirque du Soleil show (Love-The Beatles), trying out the new “High Roller” Ferris wheel, shopping until we drop, riding a gondola at the Venetian and sneaking in a meal at the closest In-N-Out Burger to Denver (as far as I know).  We are three wild a crazy women that will also brave the wilds of Nevada to see the Hoover Dam and we will track down and conquer what I hear is a world class buffet (Studio B at the M Hotel).

So you can see that we have about two days of a four day trip planned and no real clue on what to do with those other two days.  I guess I can devote some time to writing, but honestly, I don’t love you guys that much and I am ready to ditch you for the next week or so.  That being said, could you help a sister out with some advice and some ideas of things that you like to do in Vegas?  I joke that I might sneak my mom into the Thunder Down Under show but that might become a reality if I can’t think of anything else.  I have my guide book and I am trying to do some investigating, but I have decided that I need to spend time with my boys more than study and that’s why I am looking to you, wonderful friends, to help me out and lead me to the other half of my totally awesome Vegas vacation!

So I would really appreciate it if you could give me some ideas. What do you like to do there? What should I eat?  What should I drink?  Any gambling advice (I like roulette but I lose money very quickly)?  Any shows I should see? Shops I should shop?  Anything off the Strip that is worth seeing?  Any answers are gladly accepted!

Now that I have this off my chest I will sit back and anxiously await your replies.  I can turn my mind to more pertinent matters like wrestling my suitcase out of the cluttered laundry room and hauling it upstairs so that I can pack, and trying to decide what music will be on the stereo for the twelve hours to and from Denver that I will be sharing with my companions. I know that my Best of Queen album is going for sure and everything else is up for grabs.  Let’s get this party started!

  2. The Beatles Love show is AMAZING! I need to see it 2 or 3 more times to see it all. The music in Mystere was outstanding. It was about half way through the show when I realized the music was live. Skip KA. Worst Cirque show ever. and also skip Zumanity unless you’ve seen everything else.

Vegas is wonderful! Have a Bloody Mary! I’ve stayed at the Aria and off the strip…either way it’s a fantastic time. I don’t play big games. I only played 21, usually I play the slots. I won a little bit too. Go to the buffets, I love seafood, they have the best! ENJOY!!!
