Part Five: There’s No Patience at Disney

Catch up with parts one-four of my Disney Adventures here. Let me just start this section of my story off by saying that the Disney Express Transportation is fantastic. As Greg and I traveled alone to Animal Kingdom it became very clear that we were going to see a part of Disney World that we had never seen before. What a sight it was, too: I’m talking cars and trucks and parking lots all around. Concrete everywhere you looked and quiet roads with hardly any traffic. Of course, it didn’t matter to me how many parking lots we were looking…

Part Four: Just Don’t Drop the Drink!

Catch up with parts one-three of my Disney Adventures here. The rain began innocently enough, but it was only a matter of time until we were under complete attack by the stinging pellets of precipitation that were streaking from the sky. Well, it was kind of just sprinkling a little harder, but I felt that it was turning into something personal. We had finally found the time to sit and take a breather (and get a little Star Wars action on) and our plans were now in jeopardy. Greg pointed out an unclaimed bench under a huge umbrella and we made…

Part Three: Stop for a Rest? Puh-lease.

Catch up with parts one and two of my Disney Adventures here.   When it comes to dining at Disney there are only so many restaurants that I like to go to over and over again and one of those restaurants is Sanaa at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Years ago, when I was just starting to have the flames of my addiction fanned by people I met online, I would have never even known that there was anything of value going on outside of any of the theme park walls. I would probably still be buying pretzels and burgers and…

Part Two: Does My Insurance Cover a Ride on Dinosaur?

Catch up with Part One of my Disney Adventures here.   I had a truly difficult time falling asleep because I was majorly keyed up, so I made use of Stacey and her “Must-Do” list to lull me in to semi-unconciousness. I guess it didn’t hurt that I had already watched Stacey on my computer at work (ad nauseam) for weeks and practically knew the script by heart. It gave my brain something else to do besides worry about the next day’s plans. For as late as we had stayed out the night before (really, it couldn’t have been past…

Disney World and the Cupcake Line of Doom

It’s always interesting when I start getting revved up to go on a vacation. There are the last minutes of getting everything I need gathered (as if where I’m going couldn’t possibly have sunscreen or deodorant, should I forget them) and the long nights I spend thinking through my plans step by step by step. While there is a certain amount of excitement and anticipation, there is an equal amount of worry that gets me so churned up physically that I either have to resort to dark rooms and quiet breathing or an extra-large container of Tums. Either way, when…

Vacations Give the Loveliest Headaches

A vacation is an adventure that always starts off so exciting with thoughts of perfect travel, exciting experiences and wonderful fresh food that surely await me when I get to my point of destination–in this case, the Big Island of Hawaii. Getting to sleep the night before leaving is one big giant game to be played between myself and myself, trying to convince my excited brain that if I don’t go to sleep right now, I am going to be a miserable crab the next morning.  Sometimes my brain gives me a break and lets me go, but more often…

Getting Lei’d While on Vacation

Catch up with the story! Part one: Vacations Give the Loveliest Headaches Part  two: Some Vacations Don’t Need an Airport Part three: Am I Actually on Vacation Yet?   Six entertaining (but killer on the legs) hours of travel and my little familial unit was in Kona, Hawaii.  Since we were in a half coma by the time we landed it really only felt like a couple of minutes before we were out the front door.  I guess I wasn’t paying ANY attention to what had been going on to this point because I was extremely surprised to see that…

Am I Actually on Vacation Yet?

Catch up with the story! Part one: Vacations Give the Loveliest Headaches Part  two: Some Vacations Don’t Need an Airport The flight was delayed a total of almost two hours, which basically took away the cushion of time we were going to have for our layover in Seattle and no one was really smiling when we finally, FINALLY, took off from Denver.  I was ready to just sit back and read a book, but I was reminded over and over and over again that sitting and reading wasn’t really an option for me with my very talky nine year old…

Some Vacations Don’t Need an Airport

Catch up with the story! Part one: Vacations Give the Loveliest Headaches Hallelujah! The trip through security was much easier than I was anticipating and excitement started churning in my stomach.  I have always loved coming to the airport, and knowing that my family was soon going to be flying on one of those beautiful machines had me all but jumping up and down in excitement.  We get to our concourse and I suddenly realize that we’ve got about an hour and a half to kill and I’ve got a nine year old serial shopper with serious vacation savings in…

Denver to Las Vegas– My Brain on a Road Trip

Euphoria We are out of here, people! I’ve got my water and my handful of emergency snacks and we are out of here!  Look at how beautiful it is at 5:30 am on a Sunday morning, with the sun still asleep and the millions of cars I would otherwise be doing battle with safely and snuggly tucked away in their happy little garages.  Wow!  I don’t think I’ve ever made it through all of the lights on this street without stopping at (at least) three different red lights.  And there’s no pressure to go a thousand miles an hour on this highway…
