Literary Lion–The Motion of the Ocean

As a way of keeping my brain alert and to get myself some much needed practice writing fiction, I have decided to participate in a weekly writing activity prompted by the Literary Lion.  My piece can be no longer than 400 words long. This week’s theme was WATER.  I hope you enjoy. Giving a little cough, she rolled over to her back and stared up to the sky. One arm moved up her body until the back of her hand covered one eye. Thoughts flittered through her mind of how she got to be there at that very moment and on…

Do They Even Have Candy Stripers Anymore?

I’ve never been one of those people that has to be busy every minute of the day. In fact, I would say I have probably been the exact opposite—if I didn’t have to go to work every day, my living room would be a re-creation of Jabba’s palace.   In other words,  I am perfectly happy sitting on the couch and watching television while the world goes on around me.  Sometimes I can be persuaded into reading a book or two instead, but that doesn’t happen for me so much anymore.  Not enough good books to read? Sure, let’s go with…

I Never Pass Up a Chance to Talk

Fair Warning-This exercise is in response to a fellow blogger @afternoonofsundries who asked me to participate in a challenge requesting I list ten things I love and ten things I hate, as a way to get to know me better.  Don’t read unless you really, really want to know more about me. First of all, thank you for asking me to participate.  I appreciate that you have read my blog and that you think I have things to say that you might find interesting. I’m actually pretty excited to do this because it makes me feel like I finally made it…

Mortal is as Mortal Does

(A Daily Prompt exercise  for Blogging 101-Assignment 11) Fair warning–this is an exercise for a blogging class and is not my usual fun stuff! Sitting and staring in silence for twenty minutes has not led my brain to remember a time or place that I might have first realized that I wasn’t going to live forever. I suspect it was a lot earlier than my memory gives me credit for and it probably came softly and inevitably at a time I wasn’t even thinking about it. I do remember once swimming in a cool mountain lake while camping with my family…

All My Bags are Packed, I’m Ready to Go

Photo from darryllang.com I want to say thank you to @travelmagnolia via @wangandthecity for the wonderful post that led me to these memories. Stores, restaurants, and photographs. Music, books and paintings.  Am I talking about a museum? Or a library? Or a mall? No, I’m talking about one of my favorite places to visit–Denver International Airport (DIA). For me, going to the airport is like an extra special adventure, and it doesn’t matter to me if I’m going somewhere or if I’m just stopping in for a few minutes to pick someone up.  I don’t mind paying for the parking, or circling the…

Are You Ready for the Summer?

One way or another I was going to get to camp.  Not the kind of camp that your mom and dad drop you off in the morning and then pick you up on the way back from work, but the real kind of camp—bunk beds, bonfires, and hanging out by the lake. I was convinced that I would have a way more awesome experience than Haley Mills had in The Parent Trap.  Kristy McNichol and Tatum O’Neal wasted all of their fun camp time chasing boys in Little Darlings and I definitely wasn’t going to do that.  I knew that…

Extra Crispy or Original Recipe?

To change or not to change, that is the question.  Blogging University has, as the second assignment in the Blogging 101 class, asked us all to take a look at our titles and taglines and decide whether or not they should be edited.  Apparently I was thinking that the second day of a three week program would be a cake walk, but this one has just got me spinning in circles and questioning my whole blogging existence. I have now officially pondered this while eating dinner, walking my dog, washing dishes, and watching Tiny House Hunters.  With some good suggestions…

Who Am I Anyway? Am I My Resume?

Those of you in the know have heard that I am going to be using this blog to become master of the blogging universe and that I will be regaling you all with wonderful and exciting stories that will be assigned to me through my Blogging 101 class.  Congratulations on making the short list!  Those of you that didn’t know, well, I apologize for the abrupt turn on subject matter, but a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do– I hope you don’t turn around and decide to stop following me. I promise I’ll make it worth…

Well, At Least My Shoes Still Fit

Picture this: You naturally wake up to the most beautiful filtered sunlight cascading through your slightly opened blinds, and before sliding out of your faintly over-heated sheets, you stretch the most beautiful stretch and think on all the possibilities you have before you.  You lazily roll over to the side of the bed, push yourself up and out, and slowly make your way to the shower, where you let the hot water soothe your aching muscles and let the smells of your soap and shampoo wake your mind.  Pictures of all that you will accomplish during the day run through…

I Don’t Think You’re Ready for this Jelly

Hey there! My name is René and this is a peek into my unusual mind.  I will be using this blog as a way to archive memories, communicate with myself and my friends and family, and generally just a way to purge my brain of its insanity. You are welcome to join me on this ride and I hope that you will be entertained, if not, inspired by the totally awesome words that are likely to be shared here. Bwwwwaaahahahahahaha… Want to comment?
