Mini Musings- I Sprung for Some Business Cards

Hello again to all of my blogging friends! Thanks to all of the great advice I got a few weeks ago (and a suggestion from my sister-in-law) I have been able to come up with two or three ideas to write about that are very exciting.  My last blog on haunted houses was fun to do and I will soon be touching on indoor skydiving and the time I accidentally had my hair turned into a fro (I might even have pictures of the debacle–stay tuned). This week I decided to bite the bullet and purchased 100 business cards with my…

Literary Lion- It’s My Time

I am re-posting this in honor of a friend that passed away 24 years ago today. I miss her much. I wasn’t supposed to be there.  As I looked through glass into the cluttered, yet sterile, room it was a fact that was amplified a million-fold.  It was a place for big dreamers and people that didn’t know the meaning of the word no.  A place of unknown possibilities and limitless power.  I was afraid of it all and yet there was no way I could stay away.  What a marvelous, terrifying, unbelievable creation of imagination and it was only…

Denver to Las Vegas– My Brain on a Road Trip

Euphoria We are out of here, people! I’ve got my water and my handful of emergency snacks and we are out of here!  Look at how beautiful it is at 5:30 am on a Sunday morning, with the sun still asleep and the millions of cars I would otherwise be doing battle with safely and snuggly tucked away in their happy little garages.  Wow!  I don’t think I’ve ever made it through all of the lights on this street without stopping at (at least) three different red lights.  And there’s no pressure to go a thousand miles an hour on this highway…

Just For Fun–Help Me Plan My Totally Awesome Vegas Vacation!

Vegas, baby!  That is where I am heading early Sunday morning with my mom and a very good friend.  We are jumping into my version of the family truckster (my twelve year old Prius) and zooming (okay, fighting for each mile) through the Rocky Mountains on a twelve hour journey to “The City of Lights”, or “The City that Never Sleeps”, or “The City that Makes You Really, Really Fat”–whatever most people call it these days.  I honestly don’t even care what nickname it has–I’m just going to call it “The City that Isn’t Here” and be happy with that!…

Sometimes Learning Myself Kind of Sucked

My parents loved to go on vacation without me.  Okay, I don’t know if love is the right word, but I don’t think they particularly missed me very much.   Back when there was still a gaggle of us rapscallions around, the road trip was THE thing to do during summer vacations.  The time honored tradition of shoving everything we owned into a small vehicle that we would then spend hours upon hours in was important in our household (and it was a good way to shut us up about being bored and tired of playing outside all the time). I…

Mini Musings- How Do I Avoid Self Sabotage?

Hello my friends, I have been neglecting my posts (and all of your posts) more and more lately and I have no real good reason for why that is happening.  I still find that I have many things that I want to write about, but I find that I would rather do something (anything) else than sit down and type them out!  (Let’s just say that I am going to have the most awesome Halloween costume this year.) I can’t imagine that I am the only person that feels this way once in a while and so I am asking…

Just For Fun–I Made a Blogging Award

Greetings and Salutations to you all! I have been having too much fun with this blogging business with all the different ways my brain is functioning trying to figure out how to be “successful” and getting to know some of my fellow bloggers. Every once in a while I see someone write about being nominated for this award or that award and I find those posts to be very fun and informative.  I find myself hoping to get nominated because I love talking about myself so much.  It feels strange to say that, but would I even be blogging if…

Just For Fun- How Can I Get Any Writing Done When Mindy Kaling is Back On the Air?

Hello my lovely friends! I think I deserve a medal today.  I got up, took a shower, got the dog out for his walk, took the boy to school and then sat down to actually write something for the first time since I got back from my mini-vacation to southern Colorado.  It has been a super struggle to jump back in and join the world with all of my writing friends.  I can’t wait to finish up a couple of new pieces I’m working on and get them out into the world.  But as one problem is solved, another is…

Literary Lion- Brain Freeze

As a way of keeping my brain alert and to get myself some much needed practice writing fiction, I have decided to participate in a bi-weekly writing activity prompted by the Literary Lion.  My piece can be no longer than 400 words long. This week’s theme was LIMERICK.  I hope you enjoy. The clock ticks mercilessly above her right ear reminding her of all the responsibilities she has taken on and how little time she has allowed to dedicate herself to them.  Empty space on the computer screen taunts her as she tries to find her way to the story she…

Just For Fun- Tell Me Your Favorite Place to Drive for a Long Weekend

Hello my friends! I am currently on a lovely four day road trip with my family to Mesa Verde National Park and having an absolutely amazing time!  As I am sitting here for a few minutes I thought it would be fun to get some feedback on some of your favorite road trips.  Since I am only away from home for four days, I am going to limit the question to road trips that take four or less days from where you live.  I will fritter this information away and keep all of the suggestions in the back of my mind…
