Getting Lei’d While on Vacation

Catch up with the story! Part one: Vacations Give the Loveliest Headaches Part  two: Some Vacations Don’t Need an Airport Part three: Am I Actually on Vacation Yet?   Six entertaining (but killer on the legs) hours of travel and my little familial unit was in Kona, Hawaii.  Since we were in a half coma by the time we landed it really only felt like a couple of minutes before we were out the front door.  I guess I wasn’t paying ANY attention to what had been going on to this point because I was extremely surprised to see that…

Am I Actually on Vacation Yet?

Catch up with the story! Part one: Vacations Give the Loveliest Headaches Part  two: Some Vacations Don’t Need an Airport The flight was delayed a total of almost two hours, which basically took away the cushion of time we were going to have for our layover in Seattle and no one was really smiling when we finally, FINALLY, took off from Denver.  I was ready to just sit back and read a book, but I was reminded over and over and over again that sitting and reading wasn’t really an option for me with my very talky nine year old…

Some Vacations Don’t Need an Airport

Catch up with the story! Part one: Vacations Give the Loveliest Headaches Hallelujah! The trip through security was much easier than I was anticipating and excitement started churning in my stomach.  I have always loved coming to the airport, and knowing that my family was soon going to be flying on one of those beautiful machines had me all but jumping up and down in excitement.  We get to our concourse and I suddenly realize that we’ve got about an hour and a half to kill and I’ve got a nine year old serial shopper with serious vacation savings in…

Denver to Las Vegas– My Brain on a Road Trip

Euphoria We are out of here, people! I’ve got my water and my handful of emergency snacks and we are out of here!  Look at how beautiful it is at 5:30 am on a Sunday morning, with the sun still asleep and the millions of cars I would otherwise be doing battle with safely and snuggly tucked away in their happy little garages.  Wow!  I don’t think I’ve ever made it through all of the lights on this street without stopping at (at least) three different red lights.  And there’s no pressure to go a thousand miles an hour on this highway…

Just For Fun–Help Me Plan My Totally Awesome Vegas Vacation!

Vegas, baby!  That is where I am heading early Sunday morning with my mom and a very good friend.  We are jumping into my version of the family truckster (my twelve year old Prius) and zooming (okay, fighting for each mile) through the Rocky Mountains on a twelve hour journey to “The City of Lights”, or “The City that Never Sleeps”, or “The City that Makes You Really, Really Fat”–whatever most people call it these days.  I honestly don’t even care what nickname it has–I’m just going to call it “The City that Isn’t Here” and be happy with that!…

Literary Lion- Are We There Yet?

As a way of keeping my brain alert and to get myself some much needed practice writing fiction, I have decided to participate in a weekly writing activity prompted by the Literary Lion.  My piece can be no longer than 400 words long. This week’s theme was EYE.  I hope you enjoy. Sunlight caressed her face as she struggled to wake from a not so deep sleep.  She tried to stretch as best as she could from her cramped space in the backseat of the car. Scratchy songs from the country radio channel wafted quietly through the air as dad drove…

I’m Coming to Get You, Al Roker

Things to do in New York for your very first visit: Visit Central Park, ride the Staten Island Ferry and try to get face time on the Today Show.  When the hubby and I finally got the chance to visit The City that Never Sleeps we made sure that we did all three.  Getting to Central Park was very easy and quite a lovely experience and riding the ferry was a beautiful moment (the Manhattan skyline is an absolute marvel). However, getting on the Today Show was a bit of a (cold) pain in the ass.  So, yes, it kind…
